First, a quick thanks to those of you accompanying me on my newest project. Friends and family know that I appreciate a quality craft beer as much as anyone. To me, a tasting experience is more than cathartic, it’s a moment of artistic appreciation.
Take an American IPA (my personal favorite) for example: so many are put off by the initial punch in the teeth of a hoppy explosion. Overcoming that initial “pop” and rush of bitterness is challenging for some. The last four years of my life have exposed me to those who are satisfied with guzzling kegs of lukewarm, flat Natural Light senselessly. Conversely, some can’t stomach beer at all. Everyone has their own tastes and I respect that. God only knows I can’t stand certain drinks, so I’ll step down from my high horse before I even get started. No judgements here.
Yet, to those who appreciate a work of art, finding a quality IPA’s subtle balance is enlightening and eye opening. Though I won’t pretend to claim my wine palate is anywhere near sophisticated, I imagine it’s a similar sort of feeling. I’m only 22, soon to be 23: while I’m still young and just beginning my lifelong passion for enjoying and tasting craft beer from around the world, I hope you can join me as I develop and share my experiences with you.
So welcome, sit back, and enjoy. Open your mind, challenge your palate, and grab yourself a growler.
